What a week…

Ok, so I’ve officially been in Canada for a week and a half now, and I’ve already been in a minor accident, started classes, purchased a phone that has proceeded to break down, and driven in sunny, rainy, and snowy weather. Can you say ‘crazy life’? I honestly feel like I’ve already been here for a month, so much has happened to me.

First of all, the accident. After driving the car, (a stick shift) for a day, all over the city and beyond, I drove to my university on Tuesday the 2nd. After arriving at my school safely, I sent my mom a proud text, letting her know that her daughter was a pro. Little did I know that I would need to make a call to that same number not even three hours later, telling my parents that I had backed into somebody. Yes… the moral of this story is that I made a mistake that could have been avoided, but I can’t change it now. Let’s just say that I’ve learned a lot of things about how to handle an accident this week, made more calls to insurance offices and police stations than I can count, and generally had a pretty long week during this process. I think that the hardest thing this week for me has been knowing that my mistake has now caused a bunch of trouble for my parents to deal with. BUT, I’ve also seen and experienced first hand once again how amazing my parents are. They gave me grace, walked me through the process, and have generally been extremely helpful throughout this week.

The day after I had my nice little ‘incident’, classes started. Now, surprisingly, my classes have honestly been the best part of my week. And they were what were stressing me out the most. 🙂 Honestly though, for the types of courses that I’m taking, most of which are heavy on the research, my profs are great and are definitely making what might otherwise be a really tedious and long semester, a great one so far.

Weather-wise, the first day or two were absolutely beautiful! Exactly the type of weather I like, where you can wear jeans without sweating, but you don’t really need a sweater. We had some rain, and then this weekend was hot. I’m talking tank-top and shorts weather. Sunday especially was great. And then we wake up on Monday to snow. It’s been snowing off and on for the past three days, and I think we’ve made the world a little shocked. This much wet snow is weird at this time of year, even for Calgary.

So, yeah. Life is just moving on like normal. Hope you all are having a great week, and I pray not as … well, interesting as mine has been.

Prayer: All things considered, I have a lot to be thankful for this week and I’ve definitely learned a lot, in a good way. I was thinking today about how we often need our friends to commiserate about the rough patches in our lives. But it’s pretty rare that a friend comes up to you and says, ‘I just needed to tell someone about my pretty great day today!’ Here’s my challenge. Share the good with your friends and family. You’ll probably be encouraging them. And don’t take those days for granted. Join me in thanking God, praising in the good and the bad.
